Before selling your home be sure to de-clutter your bedroom

de-clutter your bedroom!

Sometimes, the fastest way to make your primary bedroom appear larger and more functional is to get rid of extra furniture“Picture your dream home. I bet it’s not filled with clutter.” ― Joshua Becker that is clogging up the space.  While your home is listed for sale you may not need an extra bedside table, 2 dressers, or an extra armoire. You may not need a loveseat in the primary bedroom…  Really talk with your real estate agent and some friends and family to get some unbiased opinions of your bedroom and your current furniture and see if there are things that should go to allow the space to feel larger while the house is being shown.  You definitely want buyers as they look at your room to feel like it has ample space for them and their bedroom furniture and sometimes having extra tables dressers sofas really takes away from this feeling of space and can actually lead to the bedroom feeling cramped.

Joy is not in STUFF

Before you list your house for sale, take a few minutes in your master bedroom to look at your space with fresh eyes and notice the decorations that you have on top of your furniture. Do you have baskets vases, crystal bowls lots of lamps or other decorative items covering the top of your dresser, bedside tables and other furniture. If so, really, ask yourself if these items add to the comfortable feeling of your bedroom.

Any items that distract from the peaceful calming feeling that we want a bedroom to exude would be good items to get rid of now …  If you love them personally and they’re just not great for showing the house. This is a good time to pack them up so that when your house does sell they are ready to move into your new place.“A clean, aired, well-organized bedroom with clear surfaces and a freshly made bed is one of the most soul-pleasing and nurturing places on the planet. You can create that for yourself, right now.” Debora Robertson

If you really don’t love them this is a good time to ask yourself. Why are you holding onto them  in your home?

“Decluttering your life changes more than the way your home looks and feels. It makes space for your soul to discover that your happiness never was found in all that excess stuff.” -Julia UbbengaYou do not need to keep things that don’t really bring you joy and fill you with happiness.

If somebody gave you something a long time ago and you keep it just to remember that person I would say it’s a good time to consider if you’re ready to let that item go.   You could take a picture of the item and maybe write a note of how meaningful it was when given to you, or your favorite memories with the loved one who gave you the item, and keep that note together with a picture in a scrapbook or somewhere special where you can still look at it, and remember the love and good feelings associated with the item while not having to keep the item physically taking up space in your house.

“The easiest way to organize your stuff is to get rid of most of it.” -Joshua Fields Millburn

I find the more and more you let go of things that are not bringing you peace and happiness in this moment, the more you free up space in your life to do things, or have things that WILL bring you peace, joy and happiness in this moment.  Remember that you can cherish the relationship. You can cherish your memories. You can cherish your loved ones without holding onto stuff that they gave you.
